Dr. Mfoniso Umoren is a board-trained gastroenterologist and advanced interventional endoscopist offering ERCP, EUS, advanced polypectomy, and the full breadth of therapeutic GI care — combining technical mastery with a steady, attentive bedside manner.
Dr. Mfoniso Daniel Umoren earned his medical degree in St. Lucia before completing his internal medicine residency at the MedStar Baltimore Internal Medicine Program. He pursued his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, followed by an advanced interventional endoscopy fellowship at the same institution — among the most rigorous training pathways in the field.
His professional focus centers on therapeutic endoscopy, with deep expertise in ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, advanced polypectomy, the management of pancreaticobiliary disorders, and the care of complications of liver disease. He performs early detection and endoscopic mucosal resection of GI neoplasia, luminal stenting and dilation, and the treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Beyond the procedure room, Dr. Umoren maintains a sustained interest in global health and addressing health disparities — work that has taken him from the bedside in Maryland to international teaching engagements, including Rwanda Endoscopy Week.
A focused practice in therapeutic and interventional gastroenterology — every procedure is approached with technical precision and a clear conversation about what to expect, before and after.

Early detection and endoscopic mucosal resection of gastrointestinal neoplasia, including complex and large lesions previously referred to surgery.
Esophageal and luminal stent placement and complex stricture dilation — restoring function for patients with obstruction or narrowing.
Ongoing care for the complications of chronic liver disease, with coordinated medical and procedural management as the disease evolves.
Endoscopic evaluation and treatment of upper and lower GI bleeding, including urgent therapeutic intervention when minutes matter.
Excellent medicine begins with listening — the procedure is the easy part once you understand the person in front of you.— Dr. Mfoniso Umoren
